I simply love this necklace. I love it so much that I wanted to create the exact same one. So I searched everywhere but the stones were too expensive. Then on my holiday I came across a Charles Dickens store where they sold a pretty cameo on a chain. I will take a picture soon and show you all. So now I have one! ^^

Quoting the piece of paper that came with it:
"By the time Victoria came to the throne in 1837 the whole mood of jewellery had changed. Many styles were never out of fashion for long: others were crazy and tasteles but these did not last the season. Jewellers began looking to the past for inspiration. Fashions in jewellery became much more sensitive to world events, books, the theatre, archeological discoveries, military campaigns, indeed anything that might be called 'news' stood a good chance of being immortalised in personal ornaments.'

A cameo is basically a personal ornament, a face of a person you know.

That is a good question I'm also wondering about. It must have been a special necklace to Fantine since she never sells it, she holds on to it until she dies. Perhaps it is her mother? Or simply mother Mary?

Here are two pictures of a cameo made by another fan. Aren't they gorgeous? Thank you Mietta!
